Why Isn't My TV Reading the USB?

Modified on Tue, Apr 18, 2023 at 12:18 AM

If your TV does not recognize the BillionDollarArtGallery:

  • Check your BillionDollarArtGallery on a computer if you have one. If you have removed your memory stick without "ejecting" it, the stick may have been corrupted or erased. Checking the files in a computer will confirm that the files are still there. If the stick is erased, please submit a ticket here for a warranty replacement.
  • Check to make sure your TV's USB port is for sharing photos and videos. Some old TVs are stamped, "Service Tech Only" near the USB port; this is rare, but those USB ports cannot be used by consumers. Similarly, the USB port in your cable box is for technicians only. When it exists, the service port is usually on the back with consumer port on the side.
  • Make sure your stick is in a USB port: HDMI ports are slightly trapezoidal and slightly larger than USB ports. Watch the video below to see how to insert your BillionDollarArtGallery.
  • To establish that your TV's USB port is working, try any memory stick in the USB that includes JPG files.
  • Try re-booting the TV by unplugging it, waiting for 1 minute, and plugging it in again. TVs are like computers that can sometimes benefit from re-starting.
  • Update your TV's software. (Many people have never updated their TV's software.)
  • Some TVs like Insignias do not play video files. They will only display the paintings as photos.
  • Some TVs such as Android or Google TVs will play videos, but may require the installation of a video app. If you need a video app, we suggest the free VLC Media Player.
  • Most TVs are formatted for FAT32, which is the format used for the BillionDollarArtGallery. However, some TVs including Samsung QLED and Samsung SUHD TVs require NTFS format. Your TV's manual can tell you which format is supported. If you require an NTFS format, please submit a ticket with this help portal.
  • BillionDollarArtGallery supports photo files as JPGs, videos as MP4s, and music as MP3. If your TV requires a different video format, please submit a ticket here.
