Page 299 notes:  "The USB ports on the TV support FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS file systems." This TV will play any BillionDollarArtGallery format:  FAT32 or NTFS

Important:

  1. Plug the BillionDollarArtGallery stick into the TV itself or an attached media player. Cable boxes do not play media sticks; the USB port on cable boxes is only for technicians.
  2. Use the TV remote – NOT the cable remote, which only controls cable devices.
  3. USB hubs are not supported.

The Sony USB ports 1 and 2 support High Speed USB (USB 2.0). These two ports are on the side of your TV. The gold contacts in the BillionDollarArtGallery should face the plastic “tongue” in the rectangular USB port.

Changing the Input Signal

Do NOT use the cable remote. Use the Sony remote that came with the television.

Discover Button

The DISCOVER button on the remote is supposed to discover content. Once in Discover mode, choose Options to change discover options. This may help find the USB port.

In the Discover section, Sony notes: “Some option settings require the TV’s clock to be set.”

The easiest way to run the BillionDollarArtGallery is to choose a video, which plays the paintings, captions and music in hour+ loops. The videos have names like:

0000 Video…

This ensures that the file is at the top of the file stack. You may have to search for videos rather than photos.

You can also display any painting, and the Sony slideshow software will begin to play the paintings, though without captions and music.

Sony support also provides this procedure for viewing USB files:
You can enjoy photo/music/video files stored in a Sony digital still camera or camcorder through a USB cable or USB storage device on your TV.

The USB port is a rectangular port (not the trapezoidal shape of the HDMI port). The gold connectors on the BillionDollarArtGallery should face the plastic “tongue” in the USB port.

  1. Connect a supported USB device to the TV.
  2. Press the HOME button on the remote.
  3. Press Up/Down arrow then Enter to select Media.
  4. Press Up/Down arrow then Enter to select Photo, Music or Video.
  5. Device Selection appears.
  6. Press Up/Down arrow then Enter to select a device.
  7. Press Up/Down/Left/Right arrow then Enter to select a file or folder.

Troubleshooting

For general troubleshooting for issues like: black screen, no sound, frozen picture, TV does not respond, or network is lost, do the following steps.

Reboot Your TV.

TVs, like computers, sometimes need to be re-booted. If you have played the BillionDollarArtGallery once, but cannot see it a second time, try turning off your TV, unplugging the TV, waiting 60 seconds, and plugging it back in. This will re-boot your TV.

When [A new TV system software update is available...] Message is Displayed.

Sony strongly recommends you to update the TV software by selecting [Update Now]. These software updates improve your TV performance or add new features.

A screen displaying [Updating...] will appear and the illumination LED flashes white while software is updating.

Do not unplug the AC power cord during the software update. If you do, the software update may not finish completely, and it may cause a software malfunction. Software updates can take up to 15 minutes.

When You Plug in the TV, the TV May Not Be Able to Turn On for a While Even if You Press the Power Button on the Remote Control or the TV.

It takes time to initialize the system. Wait for about one minute, then operate it again.

When the Illumination LED is Flashing in Red.
Count how many times it flashes (interval time is three seconds). Reboot the TV by disconnecting the AC power cord from the TV for two minutes, then turn on the TV.

If the problem persists, disconnect the AC power cord, and contact Sony Customer Support (information provided on the front cover of your Sony TV manual) with the number of times the illumination LED flashes.
