Can I Turn Off the Captions?

Yes, you can turn off the captions.

There are three ways to display the paintings. To turn off captions, try mode 2 or 3 below.

  1. Play the videos.
We created the videos to make it easy for people to see the paintings, play the captions and hear the music. During the video, each painting displays for 15 seconds, and the captions display for the middle 5 seconds. This is a great way to get to know the paintings and the artists.

  2. Display the paintings in your TV's slideshow.
All 500 painting files are included. Each painting displays on a black background to show the full image. Captions do not display unless you tap the Info button or another button on your TV's remote that shows the filename, which includes the name of the painting, the name of the painter, the year it was painted, and the museum that owns the painting. (Some paintings are in the hands of private owners. If you want to visit a painting in a museum, check to see if the painting is on display and that it is not on loan to another museum as part of a special exhibition.)

  3. Play the "Party Mode" video when you want your TV to look like art and for the paintings to persist.
We created Party Mode by cropping wide paintings that could best fill up the screen; if you consider a narrow painting like the Mona Lisa, the only way to fill the screen would be to stretch the painting wide, which would look ridiculous, or to crop just the head, which would also look strange. Party Mode looks like art, but, because of the shape of a TV, does not show the full art. Still, it's fun and attractive. Captions are not shown and each painting displays for three full minutes, which is what you might want for a party. That's why we call it Party Mode.
